TECHNOLOGY: GOLDENGATE TDM ARCHITECTURE

Inside GoldenGate Transactional Data Management (TDM)

GoldenGate TDM consists of decoupled components that can be configured to enable a variety of solutions for high availability/disaster tolerance and real-time data integration. TDM's architecture allows each component to perform its tasks independently in addition to enabling real-time data replication between heterogeneous source and target systems. Its core components include: GoldenGate Capture, GoldenGate Trail Files, and GoldenGate Delivery.

How TDM Works:

GoldenGate Capture - GoldenGate Capture typically resides on the source database server and reads the result of database operations (Insert, Update, and Delete) by directly accessing the database's transaction (redo) logs and immediately routing them for distribution. The Capture module is compatible with a wide variety of sources.

GoldenGate Trail Files - Trail Files contain the changed data operations in a transportable, platform-independent, universal data format. Trail Files can reside on the source and/or target server but exist outside of the databases to minimize overhead on the source systems and enable improved reliability and heterogeneity.

GoldenGate Delivery - GoldenGate Delivery reads changed data transactions from the Trail File and continuously applies them to the target database using the native SQL for that RDBMS and in the same order that they were committed on the source system. Transaction commit boundaries are preserved throughout each step of the data movement.

In addition, GoldenGate TDM offers selective capture and delivery capability, providing advanced filtering functionality at the database/schema, table, row, or column level, or based on operation type, matched patterns, and value thresholds.
