AMD Leverages GoldenGate's Real-Time Data Integration Solution for Productivity Gains

GoldenGate supports AMD to improve wafer production efficiencies at its global production facilities in Germany

San Francisco and Munich, Germany - February 14, 2007 - GoldenGate Software Inc., the leading provider of high availability and real-time data integration solutions, today announced that AMD has deployed GoldenGate's software solution to improve the reporting and monitoring system capabilities for its global wafer production facilities in Dresden, Germany. AMD is using GoldenGate's real-time data integration solution to move transactional production data from its core application, which runs on an IBM DB2 UDB database, to an Oracle database and simultaneously to a production planning and management system, specifically designed for manufacturing in the semi-conductor industry.

The AMD wafer production facilities in Dresden, Germany, are responsible for the majority of the company's production worldwide. AMD will use GoldenGate's real-time data integration software solution to feed the production reporting and monitoring system, thereby increasing the production capacity and efficiency at this facility in order to meet the increased workloads being placed upon it to meet market demand.

Prior to its decision to implement GoldenGate, AMD had relied upon a custom-developed application to integrate production data between the IBM DB2 database and the Oracle database which runs the production planning and management system.

"We realized that we needed to increase the efficiency of our production planning and reporting system due to the quick capacity ramp at the Dresden site," said Dr. Hartmut Eberius, Senior Manager IT at AMD in Dresden. "A problem we faced was the delay in data transfer, and in the right format, to our production reporting system which is used by our planning department. So, we decided to look for a new data integration solution that could operate at the efficiency level we needed and at the same time scale as our business grows."

Having evaluated various solutions, AMD decided to test GoldenGate's solution in their own environment to determine how it would meet these requirements. "Once we started product testing and working closely with the GoldenGate technical team to develop the right interface between the two key applications, we realized that this was the solution we were looking for," continued Dr. Eberius.

During the GoldenGate testing period, AMD simulated production levels up to six times the current capacity and the software coped and delivered vast efficiency gains at the same time.

"In the simulations we were down to an average latency of around four seconds," said Dr. Eberius. "With these kinds of efficiency gains, we realized that we would be able to handle the major capacity expansion we are currently implementing at the Dresden site."

Additionally, GoldenGate's solution will transform some of the data between the IBM DB2 and Oracle database so that the data can quickly and easily be utilized by the production monitoring and reporting system.

Richard Dobber, Managing Director for GoldenGate EMEA, said, "AMD is a leading innovator in the product development and manufacturing of wafers and semi-conductors. The fact that it has selected GoldenGate to support the production of these systems is testament to the strength of our solutions. The need for real-time data integration between disparate systems is extremely important in today's business for the purposes of accurate and timely reporting for the business. GoldenGate's solutions are designed to meet these requirements head on."
